With its natural beauty, wildlife, culture, and adventure, there is so much adventure, fun, and excitement for the entire family in Australia's Sunshine State!
From family-friendly activities and destinations to stunning beaches, here are some of our favorite hot spots in Queensland:
This river city and vibrant capital of Queensland, Brisbane, is the third largest city in Australia and blends together a modern metropolis and relaxed, subtropical destination. As the home to nearly two million culturally diverse people, vibrant cultural precincts, world-class sporting venues, and inviting parklands and outdoor spaces, Brisbane is a fabulous destination for families.
Check out world-class museums, including the Modern Art, which offers hands-on kids activities to spark their creative spirit, delicious cuisine, and other family-friendly destinations. Definitely add the high-end South Bank Parklands, home to an inner-city beach, playgrounds and landscaped gardens, and the Wheel of Brisbane to your must-see list.
Not only will you and your family be entertained in Brisbane, but you’ll also enjoy amazing weather—it’s sunny at least 280 days of the year!
As one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef needs no introduction.
Located off the coast of Queensland, the Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system, stretching over 2,300 kilometers and encompassing more than 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands. Home to an extraordinary diversity of marine life, including colorful corals, tropical fish, sea turtles, dolphins, and sharks, the reef is a popular destination for tourists offering snorkeling, scuba diving, glass-bottom boat tours, and island hopping.
One of our favorite ways of enjoying the Reef is via floating pontoon at Hardy Reef, the perfect base for relaxing, snorkeling, and underwater viewing of countless tropical fish and over 1,400 species of coral.
HAMILTON ISLAND
Hamilton Island is located in the heart of Queensland’s Whitsundays, just 10 miles from the Queensland coast and is a premier destination for down under relaxation. The crystal clear aqua waters and pristine white silica sand stretch for over seven kilometers (4 miles) along Whitsunday Island.
Accessible via flight from Brisbane Domestic Airport Hamilton Island is one of Australia 's dreamiest escapes, offering stunning views of the Great Barrier Reef and pristine white sand beaches.
Your family will be transported to paradise, complete with lush landscapes and endless island activities such as visits to idyllic destinations such as Heart Reef, Hill Inlet, and world-famous Whitehaven Beach.
With no cars allowed, the island has a tranquil vibe, and the ideal place for your family to relax and reset.
Made famous and founded by the late Steve Irwin, "The Crocodile Hunter," and his family, the Australia Zoo is located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. One of the country's premier wildlife attractions, this popular destination offers interactive animal experiences and educational shows for all ages.
The zoo is renowned for its conservation efforts and hands-on approach to wildlife education, covering over 1,000 acres. One of the main highlights is the daily Wildlife Warriors show, featuring live crocodile feedings and demonstrations. Additionally, families can also enjoy up-close encounters, where children can cuddle koalas, hand-feed kangaroos, and learn about animal care.
While Bluey’s World Brisbane is a destination in and of itself, there is so much for families to see and do in the beautiful and action-packed regions of Queensland.
As Bluey says, “For real life?!”—Queensland is indeed a playground of adventure and excitement for travelers.
